WHAT IS THE EUROPÄISCHES ÜBERSETZER-KOLLEGIUM?


 

The Europäisches Übersetzer-Kollegium in Straelen is worldwide the first and largest international centre for translators of literature and non-fiction. 

 

 

 

 

  

You can neither learn to translate in Straelen, nor have something translated. Here you can "only translate" - but under ideal conditions: Translators from around the world come to Straelen with a translating contract from a publisher to use the diverse aids of the centre, to meet colleagues, to collaborate and to exchange tips and experiences.

The Europäisches Übersetzer-Kollegium does not act as agent for translating jobs, because all guests bring their own work – a translation commissioned by a publisher – along.

 

 

 

WHAT WILL YOU FIND AT THE EUROPÄISCHES ÜBERSETZER-KOLLEGIUM?


  

  • A library of 110 000 books,
  • including 25 000 encyclopaedias and dictionaries in more than 275 languages and dialects, including a comprehensive collection of digital media;
  • 40 computers with free access to the Internet; wireless network for free access to the Internet (WLAN/Wi-Fi);
  • translator colleagues from Germany and abroad for inspiration and discussion;
  • 30 comfortable studio apartments with a total living space of 2500 sq.m.;
  • fully equipped kitchens where you can cook your own meals 
  • and a pleasant small town in the Lower Rhine region.
