OBJECTIVES

The goal of the Europäisches Übersetzer-Kollegium is to encourage an international cultural exchange and to overcome language barriers in the interest of international understanding;

in particular,

to introduce foreign literature in Germany and to make German literature known abroad,

to improve the quality of non-fiction and literary translations,

and to emphasize the significance of translating internationally.

THESE OBJECTIVES ARE BEING REALISED IN PARTICULAR BY

running an international centre that provides German and foreign translators apartments, working space, computers, and a library for the duration of their translating project in an international institution,

specifically supporting contemporary translations that are true to the original,

offering continuing-education seminars and workshops for translators and authors as well as seminars and practical training for students,

building up and expanding a specialist library, which fulfils the needs of literary and non-fiction translators and is open to the public as a reference library by appointment.
