BY AIRPLANE

Düsseldorf Airport is 75 km from Straelen.

Take S-Bahn no. 11 to Düsseldorf Hbf (central station). It runs every 20 minutes and takes 11 minutes. From there, you take a regional train to Kempen or Geldern and continue by bus (no. 063) or by taxi (Taxi Germes: 0049-2831-6513, Taxi Frisse: 0049-2834-8387 or Taxi Ruch: 0049-2834-6012) to Straelen.

The Cologne Airport is 100 km from Straelen.
Take S-Bahn no. 13 to Köln Hbf (Cologne central station; about 15 min.). From there, continue by regional train via Krefeld to Kempen or Geldern.

Airport Niederrhein, a small airport in Weeze, is 25 km from Straelen. A few airlines, for instance the low-budget airline ryanair.com, fly regularly to this airport. For more information see www.airport-niederrhein.de.

From the airport in Weeze, you can take a bus to the train station in Weeze. From there, the train to Geldern takes just a few minutes. Continue by bus or taxi. You can request a taxi by telephone in advance.  

The Amsterdam Airport is 190 km from Straelen.

Take a train to Venlo, then continue by taxi (Taxi Germes: 0049-2834-6513, Taxi Frisse: 0049-2834-8387 or Taxi Ruch: 0049-2834-6012) to Straelen.

BY TRAIN AND BUS

Straelen does not have a train station. The nearest stations are in Geldern and Venlo, the Netherlands.

Trains run hourly from Düsseldorf to Kempen or Geldern or from Cologne and Duisburg via Krefeld to Kempen or Geldern.

From Kempen or Geldern you can take a bus or a taxi (Taxi Germes: 0049-2831-6513, Taxi Frisse: 0049-2834-8387 or Taxi Ruch: 0049-2834-6012) to Straelen.

Please note that on weekends and holidays only taxi busses provide a connection between Kempen and Straelen and Geldern and Straelen. You have to request a taxi bus 30 minutes before departure under the telephone number 01803-504031.

Alternatively, you can take a train to Venlo, the Netherlands, and then a taxi over the border to Straelen. In this case, you will want to order one of the inexpensive Anrufsammeltaxi (AST: share-a-ride taxi) from Germany in advance under the telephone number 0049-2834-702-400 (weekdays until 7 pm, Saturdays until 3 pm) or call one of the Straelen cab companies. Dutch taxis crossing the border can be very expensive.

Get out at the bus stop Venloer Tor. From there, it is a 2-minute walk to the Kollegium, which is right next to the church.

BY CAR

Coming from the north or east, take the exit at Autobahnkreuz Moers and continue on A 40 in the direction of Venlo. Shortly before Venlo, take exit no. 4 (Wachtendonk) to Straelen and then turn left towards Straelen.

Coming from the south on the west side of the Rhine, drive to Mönchengladbach on A 61 and continue in the direction of Venlo. Near Kaldenkirchen-Nettetal take exit no. 2, then turn right to Geldern (and Straelen).

The Europäisches Übersetzer-Kollegium is in the middle of town, right next to the church. Drive along Wälle (the ring street) around the town until you can turn left onto Klosterstraße, which continues in its extension as Kuhstraße. In front of the centre, you can park 90 minutes with a parking disc. You will find long-stay parking behind the nearby town hall (Rathaus).
